The deep snow in February 2010 reminded us that our fire hydrants can easily get buried in extremely snowy winters. Whether it be from high amounts of multiple of snowfalls or a snow plow just simply pushing snow up against or over the hydrant, hydrants must remain open and easily accessible. Spring Ridge Conservancy has at least 125 hydrants along single family and townhouse streets or Frederick County main roads.
The Spring Ridge Conservancy Board of Directors has authorized ValleyCrest to install markers at each of these hydrants. The markers are bright orange and should be tall enough where they will not get buried in deep snowfall events. They are also reflective so they can be seen during night-time plowing.
