Spring Cleaning
It’s time for Spring cleaning inside and outside of your home. To help you get rid of some of your larger pieces of trash such as furniture and appliances, Frederick County is having “Bulk Collection Day” on Thursday, May 1st. If you are interested in participating, you MUST sign up by calling the County between April 7-17 at 301-228-2855.

Weed Control
After all the snow comes Spring! Which means it’s time for landscaping preparation. Valley Crest Landscaping, formally known as STM Landscaping, will be here again to apply a pre–emergent product for weed control. We ask that everyone stay off the grass until the product is dry (this includes pets as well). Signs will be posted to applied areas. The first treatment will be during the week of April 7th. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the treatment, please contact Valley Crest Landscaping directly at 703-352-7555. Chemical fact sheets will be available at the visitor center.

The Blood Drive has been rescheduled! All those interested in donating please call 301-620-0782 to make an appointment for Friday, April 4th between the hours of 12-4.

Spring Forward
Just a reminder that Daylight-Savings Time is approaching and that means it’s time to Spring Forward! On April 6, 2003, you should turn all of your clocks forward one hour. This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Spring Is Here . . .
Winter is finally over... and that means it’s time to put away any shovels and sleds that you have been keeping in the front, sides or rear of your property.
For Your Convenience

Spring Ridge has their own website. You may download ACC applications, read the past and present newsletters, look at what’s going on with the Committees/Clubs and so much more. Give it a “click” at www.springridgeonline.com .

Landscape Committee
We are trying to form a landscaping committee. We currently have a couple people interested...however, we need a few more. If you have any interest in helping Spring Ridge look even more beautiful give Richard a call at 301-620-0782.

Recycling Yard Waste
There has been a change in the yard waste collection procedures this year. Please note that grass and other yard clippings will ONLY be picked up on Wednesday and not on Mondays or Thursdays!

For Single family and town homes:
Yard waste and grass clippings pickup will occur on Wednesdays starting in April. Grass and other yard clippings can be placed in paper bags, craft bags or loose in uncontaminated containers. The trash hauler cannot/will not take grass/yard waste in plastic bags. No sod will be allowed. 4" diameter branches may be bundled with cord and recycled as well as long at the bundle does not exceed 4' in length.

All yard waste and grass clippings will be recycled which helps our environment and saves the association in landfill dumping fees. Should you have any questions, contact the management office at 301-620-0782.

Pet Reminders for Spring
In lieu of all of the complaints from last year to present, we would like to remind every pet owner to be sure to pick up after your pets. And as always, keep all your pets leashed at all times. Please do your part in minimizing this problem.

POOL NEWS

Pool Season is Nearing

The pool will open this year on May 24th so pull out your passes! As you recall, your community went to permanent pool passes beginning last pool season. Homeowners were advised to keep these passes in a safe place during the Winter months. Anyone who cannot locate their pass should contact management at the Visitor’s Center for a replacement pass. Replacement passes are available at a cost of $15.00/ pass. Everyone visiting the pool will need a valid pass to enter beginning on opening day.

Don’t forget that you must also be current on your association dues in order to gain entry into the pool yard. Contact Tina Strange at 301-694-6900 ext. 1010 for any questions regarding your account. Payments of association dues may not be made at the Visitor’s Center, as we are not equipped to handle money or checks.

Swim Lessons/Swim Team

Swim lessons will be offered again to all Spring Ridge residents. Look in the May newsletter for details. Last year, more than 190 children participated in the Red Cross instructor certified lessons. All interested swimmers are encouraged to join our community swim team, the Sharks. The swim team is a recreational activity designed to continue advancing a child’s stroke performance and to teach children the value of team work.

Looking for Volunteers

The Pool Committee is in need of volunteers. As always, the pool committee appreciates everyone’s support, but we would like to do more. If anyone is interested in volunteering for the pool committee and making Spring Ridge Pool the best in the county, please join us at the next meeting on April 1st at 7:00pm in the Visitor Center.

Board of Directors Corner
1. Spring Ridge's trash hauler will be picking up RECYCLABLE yard waste on Wednesdays. This is grass clippings, brush, bushes and limbs. The grass can either be placed in paper bags or CLEAN trash containers which will be dumped onto the truck. Recycling the yard waste reduces the cost to the trash hauler, and extends the life of the land fill. Look for specific details on the preparation of branches and when this program will begin.

2. Residents are reminded NOT to use the common areas as dumping grounds for their grass clippings.

3. Keeping on the trash subject, there will be a bulk item pick up conducted by the county in May. Again look for specifics in the body of this newsletter.

4. The Board thanks all the Spring Ridge residents who assisted their neighbors and neighborhood, by shoveling snow, clearing walks and drains, and providing drainage for the runoff this past February. It set a record for snow in February, with more than fifty inches.

5. The signs indicating “model home” should be removed within two weeks of receiving this newsletter.

6. We have two volunteers to head up the Landscape Committee, we would like four more members, if interested please call Richard Gemmell at 301-620-0782.

Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 1-3pm at the Spring Ridge Soccer Field. A pre-registration is required for this event. Please fill out the form at the bottom and return it to the Visitor’s Center by Wednesday, April 9th along with a dozen plastic eggs, filled and taped for each registering child. Please use individually wrapped candy. Please bring a baked good to share the day of the event. We would appreciate one baked good per family. VOLUNTEERS are needed to make this even a success. Help is also needed to set up and clean up after the event. ATTENTION: we need someone to wear an Easter bunny costume. The volunteer will receive a gift certificate to a local Spring Ridge merchant. This is a great opportunity to earn some community hours. Please call Karen Ritter to volunteer at 301-831-4228. The rain date for this event is Sunday, April 13 from 1-3pm.

Fitness Club
Good news! Community members have expressed interest in forming a Fitness Club. There is still time to let me know if anyone else is interested. Please email me, Bonnie, at springridgerec@adelphia.net to let me know if you can come to the "meet and greet" to meet the fellow walkers and runners on April 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the pavilion by the soccer field.

Ladies: We are contemplating a new Ladies League. Please call Donna at 301-624-1991 if you are interested. Be sure to leave you phone number and the day and time you would prefer to play.

Calling All Sharks
The time is finally here for registration for the 2003 Spring Ridge Sharks swim team! I hope you have been maintaining your swimming endurance for the upcoming season. We look forward to working with both returning swimmers as well as any new members to the team.

There have been quite a few changes in the Frederick Summer Swim League (FSSL) that we are members of, and we will be bringing you up to date on those changes at registration.

Registration will take place at the Visitor’s Center on Sunday, May 18th 4-8:30pm. Please make every attempt to attend this important registration/meeting. This is your chance to hear of policy changes, try on/order team suits and buy T-shirts, meet the coaches and committee members, find out dates of the planned events to plan your vacation and have your questions/concerns answered.

As always, we depend heavily on the team parents to assist us in not only our swim meets but also working with us on swimmers’ social events. There are many ways to help with these events should you have other scheduling or family commitments. We will work with you because it takes everyone’s help for these events to take place.

Swimmers may register with a personal check or cash. No registrations will be accepted without payment. No swimmer may practice without a registration form (insurance reasons). To join, your child must be able to swim (ages 5-19 as of June 1st 2003). This means that your child can swim 25 meters without stopping, without floatation devices or hanging onto the wall. Practice schedules, calendar of events and Shark Rule Handbooks will be distributed at the May 18th registration. Please bring your insurance policy number with you for registration. All swimmers must have a parent/guardian signature to join.

We look forward to seeing you at registration!
