Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
April 2005

Board of Director’s Corner
Next Meeting: April 19th - 7pm at Visitor Center

1. It is with regret that the Board has accepted Dave Ryan’s resignation as Chair-Person of the Finance Committee. For the past seven years Dave has worked tirelessly on the Spring Ridge Conservancy budgets, assessments, investments, and reserve study. He has provided us with excellent advice and many tools to manage our financial resources. We wish Dave the best in his future endeavors.
2. The Spring Ridge Directories have been distributed thanks to the many volunteers.
3. The Board received a preliminary proposal for the design and construction of the new fire station. It will be similar to the West View Station on New Design Road, but will not have a cupola. The projected cost is $2.2 million.
4. The Board has received quotations to replace the playground equipment on Ridgefield Circle and Flagstone Court. This will be accomplished this spring and summer.
5. The Board appreciates the residents who volunteered to serve on the Board filling Mr. Hammerle’s term and congratulations to Terri Kubic, who will serve the remainder of his term.

ACC Fine Warning

Since the completion of the annual ACC inspection, Management has sent out over 300 letters to homeowners who installed items on the property but did not apply for them. Several months have passed and over 200 of those of you that received these letters have not responded. According to the Architectural Guidelines the Board of Directors has the right to issue a fine against any and all homeowners who have not applied for their changes. Please take the time to complete this simple process and avoid the possible upcoming fine.

Shovels, and Sleds, and Salt, Oh My!

The winter weather is gone, but the signs that it was here still remain. This is a reminder that after a winter event, you should bring in all your shovels, sleds, and other winter gear. Do not leave it sitting on your front porch. During the last inspection there were more than 100 homes that had at least a shovel being stored in their front yard. Please store these items in their proper places. Management will be paying especially close attention to this during the next inspection.

Solicitors

Management would like to provide the following information to residents regarding solicitors/solicitation:

i Spring Ridge has a No Solicitation policy. There are “No Solicitation” signs at both entrances of the community.
i Solicitors who go to homes door to door sometimes state they have a permit to solicit on the property. Please note that this is information is false. Permits are not issued for solicitation in Spring Ridge because the community is considered private property.
i If a solicitor comes to your door, please tell them there is No Soliciting in Spring Ridge. Then immediately call Management in the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782 to report the solicitor (Be sure to include the name of the street where the solicitor was seen). If the solicitor comes over a holiday or weekend, please call the Frederick County Sheriff’s office at 301-694-1046 to report them.

Trash Reminder

Management has recently noticed that residents in single family and townhouses have been leaving their trash out for extended periods of time. Management would like to remind residents of the following rules and regulations published in the Declaration of Covenants of Spring Ridge:

6. “Trash and garbage containers shall not be permitted to remain in public view except on days of trash collection and after 6pm on days prior to trash collection. Trash shall be stored in closed metal containers or containers constructed of other suitable materials. No incinerator shall be kept or maintained upon any lot.”
7. “No garbage or trash containers shall be kept on the front or side yard of any lot, and, garbage and trash containers kept or maintained in the rear yards of any lots shall be screened from public view at all times.”

Your cooperation in keeping Spring Ridge a beautiful community is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Forsythia & Burning Bush Will Look Different This Spring!

Tall, overgrown, and leggy forsythia and winged euonymus (Burning Bush) shrubs will be given a new lease on life this spring through renovation pruning performed by ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance. Renovation pruning involves selective removal of the oldest heaviest stems as close to the ground as possible and leaving the newer stronger stems at about 24 inches in height. A few facts:

# On deciduous shrubs this pruning will stimulate new shoots to grow just below the pruning cut. The new shoots will give you dense vigorous growth that will be trained into a shapely bush.
# The proper timing of renewal pruning is important. Severely overgrown shrubs will respond best if pruned just before new growth begins.
# The only downside is that you lose a season of bloom on forsythias.

So be prepared this spring to see compact, crisp shrubs standing where overgrown mounds of dense foliage once lurked.

Pool Committee News

Water Aerobics – Pending Board of Directors approval, a Water Aerobics program will hopefully commence this season for classes. The Pool Committee is looking for your input on the Water Aerobics. Send your email response to the Pool Committee at springridgepool@adelphia.net .

After many discussions, the Pool Committee decided to keep the age at 11 years old for being admitted without adult supervision. The Pool Committee is working closely with Century to ensure that children adhere to the Pool Rules.

A Snack Shack is now in the “whispering stages.” One of the possibilities is that the Snack Shack may be managed by one of our own establishments, Paul’s Café.

Sharkey’s Tip for Pool Etiquette - Remember, the guards are there for your safety and enjoyment. Help them out by listening to them and being polite to them.

Watch for details regarding Water Aerobics and the Snack Shack in future newsletters.

Please join us for the next Pool Committee Meeting on Tuesday, April 12th at 7pm in the Visitor Center.
