Spring Ridge
Review Newsletter Board of Director’s Corner 1. Thanks to those who volunteered to serve on the Finance,
Architectural Change, and the Pool Committees. We appreciate your dedication
to the Spring Ridge Community. Intersection of Rt. 144 & Spring Ridge Parkway Recently there have been numerous traffic accidents at the intersection of Rt. 144 and Spring Ridge Parkway. The State Highway Administration (SHA) conducted a survey of this intersection during the fall of 2004. Specifically the data collected was crash data provided by the Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. The data showed an increase in the number of accidents at Rt. 144 and Spring Ridge Parkway with the most frequent cause being that drivers going eastbound on Rt. 144 who are trying to turn left onto Spring Ridge Parkway, do not yield to those who are traveling westbound on Rt. 144. Due to the above information, the State Highway Administration has started a project to change the traffic signal. The flashing red left-turn signal will no longer exist. Left turns from Rt. 144 will only be permitted on a green arrow. Also the left turn signals from Rt. 144 onto Spring Ridge Parkway and Baltimore Road will operate separately. Please look for these changes by the end of February 2005. Architectural Covenant Committee One of the most important committee’s within Spring Ridge that directly impacts property value is the Architectural Control Committee, commonly referred to as the ACC. Imagine if you will, Spring Ridge with no guidelines and/or no one making sure that the guidelines are being met. Let’s see that would mean that your neighbor on the left could have a chain link fence in their front yard, with a large make-shift shed to store his small engine lawn mowers that he repairs part-time on the weekends. What else, the neighbors on the right of you could have fulfilled their inspiration to paint their shutters a beautiful bright magenta to compliment their hot pink front door. You get the picture! The bottomline regarding the ACC is that the Committee
needs a few more volunteers. They need them now before the warm weather
returns. Most of the folks on the Committee have been serving for several
years. They need a break but continue to serve Spring Ridge because they
see the “value” of this committee and unfortunately they see
how few members are left. Isn’t it your turn to pitch in. The Committee
needs a few homeowners to step up and commit to about 2 hours a month
to help review architectural change applications. Please contact Richard Gemmell at 301-620-0782 for more
information. Directory Volunteers
Needed Parents Remind Your Kids To: Not trespass through other people’s yards, unless permission has been granted by the owner. Thank you. Pool Committee News The Pool Committee will meet again on Tuesday, February 8th at 7pm in the Visitor Center. Please check the marquee for dates if you would like to attend. We are still looking for a Water Aerobics Instructor. We are also considering the possibility of using a card reader system to enter the pool. If you know of anyone who would be interested in teaching Water Aerobics here at the Spring Ridge Pool or who has contacts for a card reader business, please contact the Pool Committee at springridgepool@adelphia.net or call the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782. See you at the next meeting! “Trash Talking” Over the past few months we have seen an increase in the amount of trash violations around the community. In order to help us keep Spring Ridge as clean looking as possible please keep the following rules in mind: 1. Trash containers should only be in public view on trash days, Mondays and Thursdays, or after 6:00 p.m. on the previous days. 2. Recycling should only be in public view on Fridays, or after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. 3. Trash containers should never be stored at the front or side of the property. 4. Trash should always be kept in proper containers. Please do not just toss bags of trash to the curb. Remember, unsightly trash buildup, even on trash days, can lead to the lowering of property values, which no one wants. Do not attempt to ‘hide’ your trash cans and recycle bins behind your shrubs and bushes as they can plainly be seen. Also do not put your trash or recycling out two days (or more!) before pick-up. Please do your part and help us keep Spring Ridge looking the best it can. Calendar of Events Feb. 7 ~ 7pm - Recreation Committee Meeting at VC Snow Removal Single Family Homes: All streets are maintained and plowed by Frederick County, including Spring Ridge Parkway, and Ridgefield Drive. All sidewalks in the single family neighborhoods are to be shoveled by the homeowner. Remember, school bus stops should be shoveled so the children don’t stand in the streets. The county will not do this, so it’s up to the homeowners. Town Homes and Condos: Here are some of the snow removal guidelines for the 2004-2005 season. In a snow/sleet storm, if accumulation is under 2", the contractor is to apply chemicals to the common sidewalks and roads. If total snow/sleet accumulation is 2-4", the contractor is to begin plowing only after 2" has actually accumulated on the roadways. Chemical application will begin with the parking areas and private roads, followed by common sidewalks. In a big snowstorm, the contractor will plow to open up the private roads. However, most of the detailed snow removal work will not take place until after the snow has finished falling. The asphalt walking path will be shoveled from Knollwood Drive to the school. However at the corner of Ridgefield Drive, only one side of the street will be shoveled to the school. The side that seems better to shovel is the Visitor Center side since the school itself doesn’t shovel their own path on Ridgefield Drive. There are safe cross-overs in front of the school. (Management will remain flexible on these issues as the needs change in the community.) Town Homes: One or two parking spots in the overflow lots should be used for snow piles. CONTRACTORS ARE NOT TO CLEAR OUT INDIVIDUAL PARKING SPOTS FOR RESIDENTS WHO MOVE THEIR VEHICLES FOR SUCH SERVICE. If multiple spots are empty at the time the plows are there, the Contractor may clear them. Please don’t shovel snow from around your vehicle and throw it back into the street. The snow should be placed in your yard, out of the way, not in the street and not on the sidewalks. If snow accumulation is over 4", the same treatment
will be applied as described above, and careful attention will be kept
to the location of snow piles. Areas to be specifically avoided are mailboxes,
fire hydrants, and bus stops. Once accumulation reaches 4" or more,
walking paths are to be cleared (one snow blower path) near the end of
the storm. As always, residents should use caution at all times. The contractor
can’t be everywhere for every weather event. Please remember to
NEVER use rock salt on any sidewalk or concrete surface. Rock salt severely
damages concrete. Please do not use it. Classifieds Wanted: Nice 6 to 7 foot silk fichus tree, preferably with many leaves and several braided trunks. Please call 301-698-5160.
