Neighborhood Watch News

With a new year brings new hope. With that thought in mind, the Neighborhood Watch Committee is declaring January Character Counts month! We want all our neighbors and businesses to show their support to Character Counts by showing their blue ribbons. Character Counts represents the six pillars of character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. This is the same program incorporated into our schools’ curriculum. We’ve had concerns within our community about our teenagers, so we want them to know that we as adults in our community model these traits and encourage them to do the same.

Blue ribbons are available at the Visitor’s Center and at various Spring Ridge businesses. Please show your encouragement by wearing and putting a blue ribbon on your mailbox and talking to your children (especially the teens) about Character Counts. Lets set new goals for this year, make Character Count!

Join us Monday, January 24th at 7pm in the Visitor Center as we’ve rescheduled Deputy Ken Olander, Resource Officer at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, to present “Buckle Up or Eat Glass.” Any concerns regarding what’s happening in our neighborhood should be brought to this meeting.

Help us unite this community and show our support to Character Counts, wear your blue ribbon proudly!

Covenant Awareness
By Richard A.Gemmell, Community Manager

Webster Dictionary defines the word covenant as a binding and solemn agreement made by two or more individuals. Agreement is defined as an understanding or arrangement between two or more people, a contract.

Spring Ridge experiences nearly a 10% turnover of ownership each year. That’s nearly 200 new homeowners settling down in this great community each and every year. As I observe second and third generation ownerships, I see a trend that concerns me. A concern that inherently and directly impacts property value. We all know that property values have been on the rise since the inception of Spring Ridge and it is everyone’s hope that it will continue, especially if you’re thinking about selling your home. My concern is that the essential, fundamental agreement to follow the Covenants is going through a cycle that indicates that some owners (both old and new owners) are just not aware of their intrinsic agreement to follow the covenants, by being a member of this HOA. Being a member (owner) of Spring Ridge Conservancy, Inc. implies that you will agree to: (just to name a few)

1. Read and comply with the governing documents of the HOA.
2. Maintain your property according to established guidelines and apply for all architectural changes.
3. Vote in community elections
4. Pay association dues
5. Ensure that those who reside on your property adhere to the rules and regulations

One of my goals in 2005 is to increase homeowners awareness of their implied agreement to follow the Covenants of Spring Ridge.
And by doing so, Spring Ridge will continue to enjoy a beautiful, well maintained community with increased property values.

FAN Club

The Spring Ridge FAN Club will meet on Wednesday, January 19th at 7pm at the Visitor’s Center.

Bill Wisecup, a freelance photojournalist, will provide us with a unique opportunity to see the culture of other countries. He describes himself as “a people photographer.” Bill has traveled to nearly 100 countries and hopes to convey to his viewers an appreciation for the people and cultures presented. This is not a typical slide show, but a unique look at indigenous cultures, many located in very remote areas. We look forward to seeing you and hope you will enjoy visiting Pakistan, Guatemala, and Antarctica. The presentation should take about 45 minutes with questions following.

Shark News

The 2004 swim season concluded with the Spring Ridge Sharks not only winning the Division (FSSL Division II Champions), but also hosting AND winning the final Division Meet. A tremendous accomplishment by the swimmers, coaches, parents, and volunteers. But we can’t rest on our laurels! The Shark Swim Team committee is getting ready for the 2005 season! A meeting is planned for 7:00 pm on February 9th, 2005 at the Spring Ridge Visitor’s Center. The 2004 Sharks committee would like to get a jump on the up-coming 2005 season. Proposed agenda items include:

! Nomination and election of committee chairpersons, treasurer, and secretary.
! Staffing committee positions, including Volunteer Coordinator(s), Spirit Wear Chairperson(s), Concession Co-Chairs, Equipment Manager, Special Events Coordinator, Web Chairperson, and IT Support Staff for meet data entry (swimmer’s events and times).
! 2005 team events (“fun” team-building events such as tie-dye shirts, team camp-out at the pool, Pancake Breakfast or something new).

We welcome any and all swim parents to attend this meeting and bring your thoughts and ideas to make the 2005 Sharks season the best season ever.
