With that thought in mind, the Neighborhood Watch Committee is declaring January Character Counts month! We want all our neighbors and businesses to show their support to Character Counts by showing their blue ribbons. Character Counts represents the six pillars of character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. This is the same program incorporated into our schools’ curriculum. We’ve had concerns within our community about our teenagers, so we want them to know that we as adults in our community model these traits and encourage them to do the same. Blue ribbons are available at the Visitor’s Center and at various Spring Ridge businesses. Please show your encouragement by wearing and putting a blue ribbon on your mailbox and talking to your children (especially the teens) about Character Counts. Lets set new goals for this year, make Character Count! Join us Monday, January 24th at 7pm in the Visitor Center as we’ve rescheduled Deputy Ken Olander, Resource Officer at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, to present “Buckle Up or Eat Glass.” Any concerns regarding what’s happening in our neighborhood should be brought to this meeting. Help us unite this community
and show our support to Character Counts, wear your blue ribbon proudly! Covenant
Awareness Webster Dictionary defines the word covenant as a binding and solemn agreement made by two or more individuals. Agreement is defined as an understanding or arrangement between two or more people, a contract. Spring Ridge experiences nearly a 10% turnover of ownership each year. That’s nearly 200 new homeowners settling down in this great community each and every year. As I observe second and third generation ownerships, I see a trend that concerns me. A concern that inherently and directly impacts property value. We all know that property values have been on the rise since the inception of Spring Ridge and it is everyone’s hope that it will continue, especially if you’re thinking about selling your home. My concern is that the essential, fundamental agreement to follow the Covenants is going through a cycle that indicates that some owners (both old and new owners) are just not aware of their intrinsic agreement to follow the covenants, by being a member of this HOA. Being a member (owner) of Spring Ridge Conservancy, Inc. implies that you will agree to: (just to name a few) 1. Read and comply with the
governing documents of the HOA. One of my goals in 2005 is
to increase homeowners awareness of their implied agreement to follow
the Covenants of Spring Ridge. Recreation Committee News Happy New Year from the Recreation Committee. Dorothy Ellis and Susie Houston thank all of those volunteers who made our job so much easier! We enjoyed meeting and working with neighbors new and old! A special thanks to Karen Libonate and all of her Santa helpers for a great Children’s Christmas Party. The Shopping Bazaar was also a huge success thanks to all the wonderful vendors! Ideas for 2005? Join us at the Visitor’s Center for the next Recreation Committee Meeting on January 10th, 2005 at 7pm in the Visitor Center See the Recreation Committee
flyer inside this newsletter for more details. FAN Club The Spring Ridge FAN Club will meet on Wednesday, January 19th at 7pm at the Visitor’s Center. Bill Wisecup, a freelance photojournalist,
will provide us with a unique opportunity to see the culture of other
countries. He describes himself as “a people photographer.”
Bill has traveled to nearly 100 countries and hopes to convey to his viewers
an appreciation for the people and cultures presented. This is not a typical
slide show, but a unique look at indigenous cultures, many located in
very remote areas. We look forward to seeing you and hope you will enjoy
visiting Pakistan, Guatemala, and Antarctica. The presentation should
take about 45 minutes with questions following. Classifieds Wanted: Nice 6 to 7 foot silk
