Tick Tips
for the Summer Season
Avoiding
Ticks:
1. Wear light-colored clothing so that ticks can be easily spotted.
2. Wear clothing that is made of tightly woven material with a slick surface
that way ticks won’t cling.
3. Tuck the legs of pants into socks. Tuck shirts into pants and button
cuffs.
4. Avoid brushing up against plants located along trails.
5. Apply insect repellent, according to manufacturer’s directions,
under clothing where ticks crawl.
6. Avoid petting wild animals.
7. Check your body frequently for ticks if walking through wooded areas
and do a thorough search upon arriving home.
How to Remove
Ticks:
1. Tick bites should be attended to promptly. Grasp the tick with a pair
of tweezers, getting as close to the skin as possible.
2. Firmly pull the tick straight out. Don’t twist or jerk it.
3. If the mouthparts of the tick break off, consult your physician.
4. Never kill the tick while it is still attached to your skin.
5. After removing the tick, save it so that your physician can identify
it.
6. Wash your hands with soap and water and apply antiseptic to the site
of the tick bite.
7. If the rash or other symptoms occur, contact your physician immediately.
Pool News
Family Party
Mark your calendars for the 3rd annual family party held on Saturday,
July 12th from 12-4pm. We are still in need of volunteers for this event.
If you can offer your time for set-up, cooking, game supervision or closing,
please contact the Visitor Center to let them know. A magician is planned
for 12:30pm for your entertainment. A DJ will also be on hand. Tacos and
hot dogs will be distributed as long as supplies last. Games and prizes
will also make for a memorable time.
Adult Night
Adult night will be July 28th from 6:30-8:30pm. There will be a table
set up for anyone who wishes to bring a favorite dish to share with neighbors
and friends. Bring a float and relax in the pool for the evening. Book
clubs or BONKO games are welcome! Maybe Mom and Dad just need a night
out away from the kids! Only people ages 16 and up will be admitted to
the pool. See you on the28th!
Permanent
Passes
Don't forget to pick them up at the guard's station at the end of your
stay at the pool.
Swimming Aides
Parents and Guardians: Please check with Andy (the pool manager) or one
of the life guards to find out what swimming aides will be acceptable
for your children.
Water Aerobics
Some homeowners expressed a wish to see a water aerobics program set up
for Spring Ridge Pools. In order to begin this we must first determine
if there indeed is enough interest. E-mail the Richard at richard.ag@pmpbiz.com
or see Andy (the pool manager) and express your wish to see such a program
here. The plan is to offer it to anyone 16 years old and over.
Trash
Once again, please pick up any trash you have and clean off tables you
use at the pool. This will avoid unwanted bugs and it's also just plain
courtesy.
Display Board
Watch for the new free-standing display board in the pool area. All announcements
relating to pool matters will be shown there.
Assistance
for the Hearing Impaired \
“Talkabout”
is a Verizon text messaging device, which will be used to enable the deaf
community members at Spring Ridge to communicate effectively with our
pool managers. Please see the manager on duty for instructions on how
to use “Talkabout” or for further information. *The Pool Committee
is pleased that we were able to get this state-of-the-art technology for
those who will highly benefit from it.*
Tip o’
the Month
Sharkey Says:
“Remember the ‘old wives tale’ stating that you should
wait at least 20 minutes after eating before going swimming? It was believed
that you could avoid cramping and vomiting by doing so. Well, it turns
out that this sage advice still holds true. It is ADVISABLE for adults
and especially children. Folks, it is NOT a rule, NOT mandatory...just
ADVISABLE.”

Weather Affects
Sharks!
This year is another
record year for swim team participation with over 198 competitors signed
up. All this despite rain, cold weather and even chillier water! Our most
enthusiastic swimmers continue to be those in the “8 and under”
age group. I’d like to congratulate them all for making the team
after enduring our yearly Spring ritual of blue lips and numb fingers.
Our first meet was Saturday, June 21st, against the Robin Meadows Racers
and was a very close competition with scores of 314 for the Racers and
275 for the Spring Ridge Sharks. We lost 100 points due to the numerous
no-shows and last minute cancellations. If you are not planning on attending
a meet for ANY reason, it is IMPERATIVE that you notify the coaches by
the end of practice the Wednesday before the meet. It is not fair to the
other swimmers to have points deducted because their teammates didn’t
swim and failed to notify the coaches in a timely manner. We could have
conceivably won this meet had all of the swimmers shown up as expected.
I recognize that the rainy weather has postponed other sporting events
and caused many cancellations and rescheduling of games. Please let the
coaches know prior to the meet if your child will not be swimming so that
the roster of swimmers will be accurate.
A huge “thank you” to all of the residents of Spring Ridge
for your patience and support of our team. We apologize for any inconvenience
we may cause you. Remember that the main pool will remain open during
our evening practices.
Sincerely,
Spencer Fotos-Lawton
