Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
July 2004

Board of Director's Corner

1. Thanks to the efforts by the Pool Committee, PMP Management and Century Pools, we began the pool season in good shape. The Board will be reviewing the attendance and capacity of each of the pools as we look toward the future.

2. The Board has voted to continue the security patrols in the Spring Forest Recreation Area. We appreciate the efforts of Lise O'Connell and the Neighborhood Watch organization as they continue with the organization of this community service group.

3. Volunteers needed, just as the Neighborhood Watch program relies upon individuals stepping forward to become Block Captains, so your Spring Ridge Board needs volunteers to make our committees and community work. Vacancies exist on the ACC, Finance, and Landscape Committees. If interested, please contact Richard Gemmell at 301-620-0782.

4. The Board of Directors has decided to take a well deserved break from their monthly meeting schedule. There will not be a meeting in July for the Spring Ridge Conservancy.

Happy Independence Day

The Visitor Center will be closed Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day. PMP, Inc. and your Board of Directors wish you a Fun and Safe Holiday weekend.

Spring Ridge Pool Hours

The Spring Ridge Pools opened May 29th. The pool hours are as follows: During the Summer, Everyday 10:30 am to 8:30 pm. When Frederick County Schools are in session, Weekdays 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm and Weekends 10:30 am to 8:30 pm. Please check future newsletters for Pool Holiday hours.

Minutes Secretary Needed for the Conservancy

Help Wanted:

We are sad to see Janet Riley resign from her role as Minutes Secretary for all of the associations within Spring Ridge. She will be missed.

Anyone interested in attending the Board meetings, taking notes and producing Minutes should contact Richard Gemmell in the Visitor Center or call 301-620-0782. Experience preferred but not necessary. This is a paid service.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is up and running within our community. We are still in need of Block Captains throughout the neighborhood. All the townhome streets are in need, as well as the condos, and then help is needed on the following single family streets: Shadybrook Drive, Fieldcrest Drive, Spring Meadow Lane & Circle, all Brookhavens, Knollwood Court, Remington Place & Court, Brambleton Way, Danville Court, Carmichael Court, Marlborough Terrace, Forest Hills Court, Inglewood Court, Iverson Terrace South, Claridge Drives, Fleetwood Court, Fairbanks Lane, Bridgewater Courts, Birchwood Court, Ashbury Place, Saddlebrook Court, & Place, Dresden Lane, Bellevue Place & Court, Oakley Terrace, and Kingston Place....please consider stepping up!

Responsibilities for Block Captains are as follows:

  • Be the "eyes & ears" on your street to pass information out to your neighbors
  • Exchange basic info (home phone & emails) among your neighbors on your street. Get to know your neighbors; let them know you are their Block Captain.
  • If you are going away, get a backup Captain and let the Coordinators know.
  • Report any unusual or suspicious activities to the Sheriff's Office. Don't hesitate to call and encourage your neighbors to call.

It is not the intent of this Neighborhood Watch Committee to "gossip or spy" on anyone. We are merely trying to bring the happenings in the community to the attention of our residents, so they are aware what is happening here. We are not pointing the finger at anyone, but when drug arrests, burglaries, etc. have occurred in the community, we feel our neighbors need to be notified so they can be aware of such behavior for their own safety and that of their children. At future meetings, we will offer the criminal activity (no names or addresses) noted from the Sheriff's Office to the community. The Neighborhood Watch website thru www.springridgeonline.com offers resources for safety as well as a timeline on what the Committee has been doing.

For example, if you have a new teenage driver you may want to check out the article from the Baltimore Sun that talks about a great website on common sense tips for both parents & new drivers to think about as they take on this important task of driving. The Safe Smart Women website at www.s2w.org offers lots of good advice... check it out!

Please help us network the community by supporting the Neighborhood Watch. On Monday, July 19th at 7pm at the Visitor's Center, another Community Conversation will be held on Drugs. Corporal Kevin Grunwell will return with more detailed information on drugs and teen usage. Please join us on this informational evening.

Also we have 2 bike racks for those of you that want to ride your bikes to the pool. If we need more bike racks, this can certainly be achieved. July Pool Committee News

‚ Enclosed with this newsletter is a July calendar for pool events.

‚ As reported in the last newsletter, the Verizon"Talkabout" two-way pager is available for the hearing impaired. If you have need of such, please see any of the guards.

‚ To All Those Attending the Pools: Please be mindful and obey the parking restrictions at the Visitor Center during the daytime AND evenings. Board and Committee meetings are conducted at the Visitor Center at night and the members need to park in those spaces in the front of the Visitor Center. Also, do not park on the curb in front of the pool stairs. This is indeed a safety violation.

‚ For those interested in bringing pop-up tents to the pool, they will be allowed on the grassy areas, however, they cannot be larger than 12 ft. x 12 ft.

‚ Community Pool Party - As promised, here is the news about this: It takes place on July 31st from 12 noon until 6 p.m. The Soundsations DJ will be providing the music, and there will be a Pig and Beef Roast with a chef who specializes in that. Cole Slaw will be on hand as well as lemonade; Hot dogs for the kids. The food will be served until it runs out. It's recommended that you bring your own salad and/or vegetables if desired.

‚ For Our Lap Swimmers - Please look for lap lane rules on the front and back of the Pump House.

‚ For Parents - Please tell your children that when the lap lanes are up in the main pool there is to be ONLY lap swimming; no playing or jumping in.

‚ Swim Aides - See the guards for a description of acceptable swim aides for our pools.

‚ Sharkey, our Pool Etiquette and Tips Mascot, once again reminds you to be aware of the following rules for good citizenship:

1. Please, no glass containers allowed.
2. Please clean off your table when you are finished.
3. Use trash cans available at the pool for spilled items.
4. Please be considerate of the lifeguards.
5. Do Not block the pool steps.
6. During peak hours, avoid putting your towels and possessions on empty lounge chairs.

Tip - All ages should rest for twenty (20) minutes after eating to prevent any stomach cramping and vomiting.

Please join us at the next Pool Committee Meeting on Tuesday, July 13th at 7 p.m. in the Visitor Center. We would greatly appreciate your input.
