Postage Increase
The U.S. Postal Rate Commission approved a request for a postal rate increase that will jump the cost of first-class stamps from 34 cents to 37. The Board of Governors has directed these changes become effective on June 30, 2002.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS CORNER
1) With the end of the school year fast approaching, the Board of Directors has scheduled a Town Hall meeting with representatives from the State's Attorney Office and Sheriff's Office to discuss public safety issues. Please see the details located in the newsletter.

2) Given the present drought conditions, the Board has approved the use of rain barrels to collect water from the downspouts. Residents wishing to use rain barrels, should submit an application to the Architectural Change Committee (ACC). Rain barrels must be located in the rear yard only and must have a mosquito screen.

3) Volunteers are needed for the ACC. This committee is essential to Spring Ridge, and individuals are needed to serve. Please call Richard Gemmell for details.

4) PMP, the Pool Committee and Century Pool have been hard at work, getting the pool and pool passes ready for the 2002 season. The pool opens Saturday, May 25.

5) In the fall, the Spring Ridge Review will carry items from the local schools, to keep residents informed of the happenings at the elementary, middle and high schools in the Spring Ridge Public School feeder system.

COMMUNITY CONCERNS
Whose trash is this anyway!?

Please remember that the trash containers within each respective condo association, are for the use of their homeowners only.

Townhouse Parking
What's nice with the townhomes are that the parking spaces are marked. It has been brought to management's attention that some drivers are not parking properly (between the lines). Parking availability becomes scarce if you do not park properly. Please take the time and park appropriately so that others may be able to do the same, thus utilizing each space. Thank you.

Toys in the Common Area
There has been an increase in the number of toys, bikes, boxes, and ramps being left in the common area when children go in at night. Please remind your children to take their toys and trash home with them.

FAST Triathlon & Running Event (being held at Spring Ridge this year)

They will be celebrating their 5th Annual FAST Triathlon & Running Event and we are pleased to have them here at Spring Ridge. There will be swimming, running, and biking for adults and kids! It will be fun for all ages! Come join in the celebration of the 5th Annual FAST Triathlon & Running Event HERE at Spring Ridge! For more information and entry form, visit their website at http://communities.man.com/FASTMD or stop by the visitor center for a pamphlet. Please be aware of this event, as it will directly impact the traffic flow on Ridgefield Drive and Spring Ridge Parkway. Expect delays.

Happy Father's Day
Don't forget June 16th is Fathers Day. Wishing all the Spring Ridge fathers a day that gives you plenty to smile about!

Conservancy Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Conservancy Board of Directors is June 18, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. in the Visitor Center.

Public Safety Awareness
Meeting Due to the recent rash of thefts, burglaries and other nuisance crimes in the community, the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office and Frederick County Sheriff's Office will sponsor a public safety awareness meeting. State Attorney Scott L. Rolle, along with representatives of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, will present information on protecting community member's vehicles and homes against break-ins. A neighborhood watch program will be proposed for the community's consideration and other ways that residents' vigilance can deter future crime. There has also been a rise in the number of drug offenses involving neighborhood children and parents should be concerned with children's activities as the summer draws near. A presentation on the juvenile justice system will be made. Spring Ridge if fortunate to be home to several prosecutors and local police officers. Come hear how they are working to keep our community safe. The meeting is set for Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 7:00PM at the Spring Ridge Elementary School. Please contact the Management office should you have any questions, 301-620-0782. Thank you.

Recycling of Plastics in Frederick County
The Frederick County Recycling Office would like to clarify for county residents what plastics are acceptable at the recycling satellite drop-off centers and in residents' curbside recycling bins. The only plastics that have ever been acceptable since the beginning of the recycling program in Frederick are bottles. No other plastics are acceptable for recycling. Bottles are the only plastics that should be placed in recycling bins.

Residents do not need to look at the recycling number on the bottle. All plastic bottles are acceptable other than motor oil bottles and antifreeze bottles.

There needs to be a cost-effective market for items to be recycled. Currently, plastic bottles are the most cost-effective plastic items for the Frederick County recycling program to collect. Plastic items have varying molding and melting temperatures. All non-bottle plastics may melt and mold at different temperatures than the bottles and contaminate the load.

Residents can find up-to-date information on recycling in Frederick County in the Verizon Frederick County Phone Book, in the back of the book, page R1 and R2. Additional information can be found on the county's web page www.co.frederick.md.us, Department of Solid Waste Management or you may call the Recycling Office at 301-696-2960.
