Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
June 2003

No Soliciting

At each entrance of Spring Ridge you will see “No Soliciting” signs posted. This policy is for the entire Spring Ridge community. Soliciting is considered anyone selling or asking for donations door to door. This type of activity by a company representative or even a child doing school fund raisers are prohibited. If a child approaches your home soliciting, management asks that you explain to them about the no soliciting policy and ask them to return to their home. On the other hand, they should be advised of the no soliciting policy which is posted at both entrances and ask them to leave the community. If they continue to go to the next residents home, you may call the Sheriff’s Office so that they will be escorted off the property. You may call management before the Sheriff’s Office.

Expiration of Dog/Cat Tags

Check your pet’s Frederick County Dog/Cat Tags. Most tags expire June 30, 2003. Frederick County requires all cats and dogs to be licensed. According to Frederick County Animal Control Ordinance, Division 2 Section 1-5-33: “No person shall own or have custody of any dog or cat over six (6) months of age unless such dog/cat is licensed as herein provided, and has been vaccinated against rabies in a procedure approved by the Maryland Public Health Veterinarian. Proof of rabies vaccination shall be given to the seller of dog and cat licenses.”

For your convenience you may purchase your new dog/cat license at the Visitor Center after June 30th.

Crime Prevention

As you may know, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction over Spring Ridge. When there is a crime being committed such as soliciting, noisy parties, illegally parked vehicles on county roads, speeding or any suspicious vehicle; please call the Sheriff’s office first and then notify management. The Sheriff’s office has the ability to remedy the problem quickly in most cases. The Sheriff’s Office non-emergency phone number is 301-694-1046.

Summer Tip: As you may remember, last summer we had an abundant amount of vehicles ransacked. Don’t let this happen to you. 99% of those vehicles were left unlocked or windows were rolled down. Keep your property secured at all times. Never leave your purse/wallet, valuables, or cell phones sitting in plain view. This makes your property more tempting to vandalize. Be sure to roll up those windows and keep your doors locked! An open window in a vehicle may lead to theft of radios, cell phones, and even theft of the vehicle itself. Don’t be a victim of a crime that can be easily prevented.

Dumping

Yard waste such as sod, dirt, grass clippings, or tree limbs shall NOT be discarded in any of the common areas including the wooded areas. This violation falls under the Uses and Restrictions; Article IX Section 9.02c of your Documents.

Town House Common Courtesy

Parking in the townhome parking lots can get very congested at times. Especially if each townhome owner owns 3 or more vehicles. When parking please use common courtesy toward your neighbors. If parking is limited in your area please use the overflow parking areas for extra vehicles and advise your visitors to park there as well. It’s just the neighborly thing to do.

Paws for Thought

June is national ADOPT-A-PET Month. There are many wonderful cats and kittens available for adoption at the Frederick County Animal Shelter on Rosemont Avenue. Pictures of the cats can be found on www.Petfinder.com and to see the cats in person, visit the Shelter during adoption hours: Mon, Tues, Fri 10 am - 5 pm. Wed and Thurs 10 am - 8 pm. and Sat. 10 am - 4 pm. The satellite adoption center is open every Sunday in June from 1 pm - 4 pm at the Frederick Towne Mall.
Please Save A Life...Adopt A Pet

Mowing Etiquette

Remember that grass clippings are picked up every Wednesday. All grass clipping must be placed in a craft paper bag or in a loose non-contaminated container. If your home was skipped for some unknown reason... feel free to call Ecology directly at 1-800-932-7299.

When mowing your lawn please avoid blowing the grass clippings into the street and sidewalks. Also, make sure the side of the mower that discharges the clippings is directed away from vehicles.

Also, remember that when trash pick up falls on a holiday, the next pick up will be on the next regularly scheduled day. This is the same for recycling as well. Therefore, July 4th there will be no recycling pick up till the next Friday.

Happy Father’s Day

Don’t forget June15th is Father’s Day. Happy Father’s Day to all of our Spring Ridge Dads!

Recreation Committee News

Thank You - The Recreation Committee would like to extend a warm and much deserved thank you to Karen Ritter, Mae Rupert and their committee members for coordinating a very successful Easter Egg Hunt for our Spring Ridge Community. As usual, the children had a ball and parents have many “Kodak” moments to treasure. Kudos!!

Pub Night - Join us for our 1st Spring Ridge Pub Night at Champions in Westview Promenade near the new movie theaters. Come hang with fellow Spring Ridge residents from 5:30 to 8:00. (Happy hour prices until 7:00.) For those late nighters, “Nevermore” will be performing with old friends as well as new! See you there!

Cancellation and Upcoming Events - With regrets, we must announce that our annual 4th of July Bike Parade will not be held this year due to lack of volunteers and manpower. Events such as these need to be planned and budgeted in advance and we have not yet heard from Spring Ridge residents to help plan and man the parade. However, we have scheduled many other awesome events for all ages such as a Spring Ridge “Chalk Talk” Chalk Festival for budding artists, our 2nd Annual Screen on the Green, the Fall Yard Sale, the very popular Adult Halloween Party, our first Community Chili Cook Off and Home Brew Off, and lastly Santa’s Workshop. We must remind you that we still need additional volunteers in order for any of these events to take place.

If you are interested in having a good time, meeting members of your community and helping to keep Spring Ridge a great place to live, we need to hear from you. We need voices from each phase and subdivision and are in need of a response no later than June 15th. Please contact Alison Stumpfig (3031-620-1904) or Mary Morgan (301-668-1182).

There will be arts & crafts, music, games, Bible stories, snack time, and a special guest appearance from a Frederick Keys baseball player.

Board of Directors Corner

1. The swimming season is upon us, residents are reminded to read and heed the pool regulations published in the last newsletter. The pool committee will have a board showing the approved swim aids, for the non- swimmers.

2. The Board reminds residents that bike paths have been outlined on many of Spring Ridge’s Roads, these are not passing or turning lanes.

3. The Board will try using sign up sheets for the two tennis courts closest to the pool. Sheets will be available at the tennis courts so that residents can reserve court time in advance. A complete set of instructions can be found below.

Tennis Reservation Program

This is a self managed reservation program. DO NOT contact management (PMP, Inc.) for information. The two courts near the Community pool will participate in a trial tennis reservation program. The tennis court near the Phase 2 soccer field will remain available on a first come - first serve basis. Tennis courts may be reserved by signing up on the Reservations Form posted at the tennis courts near the pool. You may only sign up for one court at a time. Except for pre-arranged tournaments or special event approved by the Board of Directors, no court may be reserved more than 7 days in advance. Time slots will be set up on the hour and on the half-hour from 8am - 8pm. Reservations may be made for 1 hour for singles and 1 ½ hours for doubles. Players may not reserve back to back court times. Residents will be allowed to reserve 2 hours/week. However, if time slots are still available 48 hours before the desired time, residents may reserve additional hours of court time. Any Spring Ridge resident may use the courts at any time if the court has not been reserved within 15 minutes of the open time slot. Cancellations - unavoidable cancellation of previously reserved times MUST be kept to a minimum. If you need to cancel, please remove your reservation form the sign-up sheets as soon as possible. Court time is forfeited in the event of a “No Show” and the time is then available to any Spring Ridge Resident. A “No Show” is defined as when none of the players that reserved a time slot is present at the court 10 minutes after the time period began.

Adult Night

The second annual Adult Night at the pool will be held on June 30th, from 6:30-8:30PM. All adults are encouraged to take some much needed time out for themselves and come to the pool to relax. Enjoy your night!

Guest Passes

Additional guest passes may be purchased at the Visitor’s Center during the hours of 11AM-5PM, Monday through Friday. Passes can be purchased for $20 for 10 guest visits or $40 for 20 guest visits. Residents may also pay for their guests at the gate; the cost is $2.50/guest for the day.

Number of Pool Visitors

The largest number of guests that can accompany one household to the pool without advance notice is 8. Anything larger is considered a party and requires a security deposit and advance notice to the PMP management office, so that Century Pool can be properly informed and staffed. All parties this season will go through Jonette Stupke. For information of available dates contact her at 301-620-1462. Thank you for your cooperation. Forms for both during and after hours pool parties are available at the Visitor Center and on the community web site at www.springridgeonline.com and the Pool Committee link.

Shark News

Registration held on Sun., May 18th with over 140 swimmers signed up and ready to go. There is still time to sign up for a fun filled summer. I would like to extend on invitation to all the older swimmers in the community, as we need additional swimmers to fill our 15 - 18 year old brackets. Registration will continue until June 9th, and forms are available at either the Visitors Center or by calling 301-524-2228. Any registrations should be turned in at the regular scheduled practice times. Practice began on May 27th despite frigid temperatures and cold water.
Please take a moment to welcome our new coaches Lori Campbell and Sheri Snyder to the team. They bring to our team a wealth of experience and expertise. They also bring new and fresh ideas to improve our swimmers chances of having a winning season.

Please remember to support our swim team by purchasing Krispy Kreme Donuts when our swimmers come around. Fund raisers such as this help purchase the necessary equipment and supplies for what has evolved into one of the premier swimming teams in the Frederick area. We want to invite all of our residents to come out and watch our competitors as they represent our community

Sincerely,
Spencer Fotos-Lawton
