June 2007

Board of Director’s Corner
Meeting: June 19th - 7pm at VC

The 2007 Pool Season begins on Saturday, May 26th.  We welcome High Sierra as the new Pool Management Company to Spring Ridge.

Please note the schedule of summer activities planned by both the Pool and Recreation Committees.  As of this date however, no one has stepped forward to organize the Bike Parade for July 4th.

Residents are reminded to keep their car doors locked at all times, as there have been a number of vehicle break-ins in Spring Ridge.

The Board is reviewing plans for a long term landscaping plan, any residents interesting in assisting in this process are asked to contact the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782.

Construction is moving at a brisk pace on the Fire Station.  We will keep you informed as to the Grand Opening Date.

The new construction at Weis seems to be moving along. Weis is expanding into the space where Blockbuster was and Blockbuster will be relocating into the newly built addition. Weis Markets will be expanding their organic/natural food section as well as the seafood and meat section.  The dairy and frozen section of the store will move into the old Blockbuster space.

Grass Clippings/Yard waste

This is a reminder to those who already know and a bit of new information to those who don’t know and/or are new to the Spring Ridge Community. Yard waste is removed from Spring Ridge every Wednesday from April to November. You can place your yard waste in kraft bags or uncontaminated containers, (no plastic bags will be removed by Ecology Services) at the curbside the evening before, which is Tuesday, at 6 p.m.

So don’t put the yard waste out on Saturday or Sunday when you cut your grass. Put it out only the Tuesday evening before it’s day of removal. Any questions can be directed to the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782. Thanks.

Pool Committee News

Once again we are anticipating the start of another great summer and hoping for a beautiful Memorial Day weekend to kick off the pool season.

The Pool Committee is organizing a Teen Party to be held sometime in early summer, to celebrate the end of school.  This year we are requesting that attendees bring their pool passes as well as the signed permission slip.  Only one guest per teen resident, with signed permission slip and guest pass, will be allowed.  The cost is still only $5.00 per teen.  Teens – we hope to see you there, last year a good time was had by all and we are expecting the same for this year.  Adults – we need volunteers!!  This is a good way to support your kids and the community. SEE THE MARQUEE AND the Spring Ridge website (www.springridgeonline.com) FOR THE DATE AND TIME.

Speaking of volunteers – we are trying to plan the Community Pool Party and unless we get some help from our residents, this party will not happen.  The Pool Committee is a very small group now, due to circumstances beyond our control we have to move the party to later in the summer when we already had previous commitments.  One person cannot do it all.

We have scheduled volleyball time in the lap pool!!  For one and one-half hours (1 ½ hrs.) every Saturday afternoon, lifeguards will install the volleyball net.  We are currently working on some courtesy rules to ensure this runs safely and smoothly.  Talk to your friends, put some teams together and join us at the pool for Spring Ridge volleyball.

Calendar

Saturday, June 16th - Volleyball (Lap Pool), 1pm-2:30pm

Tuesday, June 19th - Float Night (Main Pool), 6:30pm-8:30pm

**Teen Party, 8:30pm-11pm (Date & Time Yet To Be Determined)

Saturday, June 23rd - Volleyball (Lap Pool), 1pm-2:30pm

Saturday, June 30th - Volleyball (Lap Pool), 1pm-2:30pm

Saturday, June 30th - Float Night (Main Pool), 6:30pm-8:30pm

Neighborhood Watch News

Again this past month, I have received numerous notifications of neighborhood vehicles being broken into.  Most of these vehicles were not locked overnight.  An individual, or individuals, only has to open the door of your vehicle and pick through whatever you may have available.  We all know it, but it is worth repeating – remember to lock the doors of your car!!  It is also helpful to take a minute at night and conduct a quick walkthrough of your property.  Check your vehicles, garage door (if applicable) and home entrances and exits to ensure everything is locked.  Leaving your property vulnerable only increases the chances of you becoming a victim.  So far, the majority of things taken from the vehicles are loose change and small items.  Items like navigation systems and gold clubs have remained untouched.  This most likely indicates that we are dealing with a young individual.

Parents, do you know where your kids are at night?  Are you asking them where they have been?  Do they have property on them that makes you wonder where the money came from to get it?  Lets get involved Spring Ridge!

With summer approaching, so do the parties and increase potential for our youth to be on the road potentially under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  One of our neighbors has shared a new hotline operated by Frederick County called the Party Tip Hotline, 301-600-1318.  If you know of a current or future party taking place, you can call this hotline and they will send out the appropriate authorities.  The calls are completely confidential and you can remain anonymous.

On a final note, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department conducts what is known as a Home Security Survey, where a representative will come out to your home, look at your lighting, locks and share security tips.  The service is absolutely free and very beneficial.  If anyone is interested in having this done or would like more information, please call 301-600-3985.

Sharks News

The last chance for swimmers to register for our swim team is fast approaching!  Come show your pride in belonging to a great neighborhood.  Pick up registration forms at the Visitors Center or online at www.springridgesharks.org.

Team practices begin May 29th, so we’ll see you poolside!

A special “Thank You” goes out to all of the parents that have stepped up to volunteer and participated in planning for the 2007 season.
In addition to swim meets, plans include Cookouts, Overnight at the Pool, T-Shirt Tye-Dying, Picture and Pizza Night, a Benefit Meet for Special Olympics, Friday Night Pep Rallies, Bagels for some Morning Practices … None of this would be possible without many dedicated volunteers with many great ideas.

Best wishes for a successful season!
