The Recreation Committee News
The annual EASTER EGG HUNT will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 1 -3pm at the Spring Ridge Elementary School playground. A pre-registration is required for this event. Please fill out the form at the bottom and return it to the Visitor's Center by Wednesday, March 20 along with a dozen plastic eggs, filled and taped for each registering child. Please use individually wrapped candy. Please bring a baked good to share the day of the event. We would appreciate one baked good per family. VOLUNTEERS are needed to make this event a success. We need helpers to assist with the different age groups and to oversee the petting zoo area. Help is also needed to set up for and clean up after the event.

ATTENTION high school students: we need someone to wear the Easter bunny costume. This is a great opportunity to earn some community hours. Please call Carol Lydon to volunteer at 301-682-4348. The rain date for this event is Sunday, March 24 from 1-3pm.

GOLF! GOLF! GOLF! Yes, this is going to be a good summer for golf. How do you get a foursome together? How do you encourage yourself to actually play on a regular basis? The answer is simple: why not consider joining a new weekly's men's golf league to be held this summer? In order to get involved, we MUST have your input immediately. If you are interested in being a member of a team in the weekly league, either as a regular player or substitute player, please respond via email to SnringRidgeGolf@aol.com The Recreation Committee will be sponsoring a Spring Ridge Golf Tournament in September open to members of the league as well as other Spring Ridge residents.

The time has come to dust off your child's T-BALL glove. We are ready for another season of Spring Ridge t-ball. This activity is set to start in April and will run for six weeks. Saturday mornings were a big hit last season so the day will remain the same. We are adding a new age group. The 4-5 year olds will play from 9:30-10:30 am and the 6-7 year olds will play from 10:30-11:30 am. This activity will be held at the main soccer fieldin the community. We need volunteers for this activity and your child needs to be preregistered. Please call Karen Ritter ~ 301-831-4228 to register or volunteer. There will be a $10 registration fee.

PLAY GROUPS ANYONE? This is a great opportunity to meet other parents and have your children play with other children their age. If interested in participating, and your child(ren) are 4 and under, please call Kim Shull at 301-663- 7818.

Please look for details in the April news letter on the community yard sale (Saturday, May 18) and the second annual Frederick Keys Night.

The Recreation Committee will hold its next meeting on Monday, March 11 @ 7pm in the Visitor's Center. Everyone is invited to attend. If you have any questions, please call Karen Ritter ~ 301-831-4228.

BIKE LANES
We are fortunate to have a bike lane implemented on the roads here in Spring Ridge by Frederick County. . We are striving to have a community where bikers, walkers and drivers will remain safe. We have been informed that some cars pass on the right as they approach the stop signs and then make a right hand turn out of the bike lane. It seems to be happening at peak traffic times. Obviously, this could potentially be unsafe ifyou have two people making a right hand turn at the same time. For your safety and others, please remember that the bike lanes are not for any motor vehicles of any type. Thank you.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS CORNER
1. The pool committee is working hard to make sure the 2002 season is a great one. Please retum the post cards so that your permanent pool passes can be printed. Also, the comm ittee has proposed a number of events for the pool season, including several adult only swims on Monday Nights, teen parties, etc., please review these events. Note that there will be three home swim meets, this will delay the opening of the pool on June 22, July 13, and July 27.

2. Spring Ridge will be hosting a Triathlon on Sunday June 9~. This event, sponsored by the Frederick Area Swim Team (FAST), will involve a 'A mile swim, a 17 mile bike ride and a 5 mile run. In conjunction with this event, a five mile run will be open to all. Look for details in subsequent newsletters regarding event times and parking restrictions.

3. The Conifer Corporation presented an overview of the Senior Citizen housing now under construction. They anticipate the first units will be rented in September. Another information session will be scheduled with the Spring Ridge Board as September approaches.

4. The extensive pruning has been completed by STM.

5. Additional speed bumps will be placed in Spring Ridge by Frederick County. We anticipate this construction to take place in July or August.

PET PLEA
Management is in receipt of many letters from concerned residents in regards to the pet waste issue. One homeowner wrote, ~'I am writing to you to report that some homeowners in our neighborhood are letting their dogs run loose in the street and yards of Forest Hills Ct., Hillsborough Ter., and Inglewood Court. That is inconsiderate and unfair since the unsupervised dogs defecate in our yards most of the time leaving their excrements behind. As a result, we are forced to clean afier pets we don't even own."

We also had a concerned homeowner call in regards to roaming cats in the neighborhood. Some cats have been killing other wildlife and the remains are not being disposed of. Please remember that the Animal Control regulations state that all dogs must be on a leash and cats must be under owners immediate control when they are off personal property.

TRASH PICK UP SCHEDULE
ADS will not pick up trash on the following holidays and there will be no alternate pick up dates, therefore there will be just one pick up that week: Good Friday, March 29, and Thanksgiving Holiday November 29.

Trash containers may not be placed on the curbside before 6:00pm on the evening before pickup. When taking your trash out, please secure the trash so that it does not blow out into the common area or other private property. Thank you.

KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS
The 8th graders at TJMS are raising funds for their NYC trip by selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (glazed) now through March 12th. This is a prepaid sale of $5 a box with delivery to your door on Sunday, March 17th between 8AM and lOAM here in Spring Ridge. Be looking for the 8th graders selling or call Patty Humphries (301) 668-0385 to place an order.

SHARK NEWS
It may be a little early to think about summer, especially since there hasn't been a real winter, but it's just around the comer. We need to think ahead about our Sharks Summer Swim Team since our neighborhood numbers keep growing! This year's activities and competitions are shaping up to be one of the most exciting ever.

This year, to ensure our success and others alike in the FSSL (Frederick Summer Swim League), there have been changes made to the swim program due to the growth of Frederick. The organimng of our programs and planning our events will require evervone's help to run the team and meets.

Our mission statement is to provide a safe, fun, and rewarding activity for all swimmers on the team. It's a great way to build confidence and making new friends along with the physical benefits of swimming. The requirement for joining the swim team is that you must be a swimmer and no older than 19 years of age before June 1st 2002.

Registration for the Sharks Summer Swim Team will be Sunday, May 19th, 2002 from lpm-4pm. It will be held at the Visitor's Center. Registrations will be accepted if paid by cash or check. It is VERY important that ALL parents make this registration to find out the changes that have taken place within the FSSL. This is your opportunity to voice opinions, changes or ideas. You will have a chance to meet the Swim Committee and also the coaches for this season. Team suits will be ordered at this time and there will be suits to try on for size.

The Swim Committee welcomes veteran Megan Marshall as Head Coach for this season. She has served us well for many years as an Assistant Coach as well as an exceptional swimmer for the Sharks. She has worked hard and has eamed the Head Coaching position.

In addition to our meet schedule we will be introducing new social events for the swimmers as well as our many past activities I look forward to working with all our dedicated swimmers and parents this season as we start our season "for the kids.... and by the kids'

BLOOD DRIVE SUCCESS
This is a special thanks to all residents who donated at the Spring Ridge Blood Drive. The American Red Cross b~ood drive was held February 18, 2002 from 2-8 at the Visitor Center. This year, twenty-five units were collected. We hope this generous spirit continues throughout the year and for next year's blood drive as well.
