Calendar of Events Community Directory The 2006 Community Directory is in. All streets have had someone volunteer to distribute directories to that particular street. If you haven’t received your directory yet, don’t worry, you should receive it soon! Management would like to thank those who volunteered to distribute community directories, Your service to the community is greatly appreciated! Book Mobile Information The Frederick County Book Mobile will be at the Visitor Center parking lot on Monday, March 13th and Monday, March 27th from 3pm to 7pm. Call 301-694-1615 for additional information on Library Services. From The Desk Of A Concerned Homeowner: I own two properties in Spring Ridge-Townhouse and Single-family. One of the MAIN issues with the TOWN-HOME communities and some Single-family homes are the indisposed news papers. For example, in front of one townhouse I saw, it had 3 rolls of newspapers in front of their sidewalk and 2 in the street in front of their house/sidewalk! Now I can't prove that it's theirs, but it seems like it. One of the rolls in the street had deteriorated due to the weather. I guess instead of picking it up, they think the weather will wither it away. I'm a small real-estate investor and one of the things that DROP a neighborhood's property value is small trash and debris in the street. It gives the impression that the people in the communities don't care about their homes. What is so hard about picking up the news paper and disposing of it properly? Street Lights The street lights in the community are maintained by Allegheny Power. If you see a light out, please get the pole number (located near the top of the lamp) and notify the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782. Management will contact Allegheny Power to have the light fixed. Please keep in mind that Allegheny Power makes the repairs at their leisure. Yard Waste Recycling Is Coming Soon! For Single Family and Town Homes Only: Yard waste and grass clippings pickup will occur on Wednesdays from April through November only. Please note that this service ends promptly on the last Wednesday in November. Grass and other yard clippings can be placed in paper bags, kraft bags, or loose in uncontaminated containers. The trash hauler will not take grass/yard waste in plastic bags. No sod will be allowed. 4 inch diameter branches may be bundled with cord and recycled as well, as long as the bundle does not exceed 4 feet in length. Frederick County Stroke Club The Frederick County Stroke Club is a group of men and women who get together in Frederick on the last Monday of each month to socialize and share lunch (usually pot-luck). The members are of retirement age (and some younger) who have suffered from a stroke or similar debilitating event/illness. We are genuinely nice people who enjoy getting out of the house and spending some quality time with quality people. If you or anyone you know (friends/family members) would be interested, we’d love to welcome any and all. Spring Ridge FAN Club Bobby Brunner was our guest speaker for the February FAN Social at the Visitor Center which was expertly decorated with heart-shaped balloons. Chocolate hearts and cakes were there for all in a gesture celebrating a belated Valentine’s Day. Mr. Brunner revealed to us that his company, Classic Entertainment, had the enviable contract to plan and carry out a party that Former President Jimmy Carter and Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter held for a charity in Georgia. Not to let you think that he is partisan, he also has high ranking Republicans on his list of clients. It is impressive! Those attending learned many tricks of his party-planning trade. How? He arranged us into five groups and guided us through a vigorous brain storming session of menu planning, activities, invitation construction, decorations, and etiquette for the creation of unforgettable parties. This is not the end of the FAN’s relationship with Bobby Brunner and Classic Entertainment. Wait until you hear about our future plans! Wait we must! But while we wait, the FAN Club will not be twiddling thumbs. We have the following fun-filled schedule: March 15th at 7pm will find Drs. Michael Warner (Dermatologist) and Wyatt To (Plastic Surgeon) at the Visitor Center discussing a “lovelier” you. These two local physicians belong to a Frederick group known as The Cosmetic and Skin Surgery Center on Thomas Johnson Drive. April 19th’s program will bring beauty experts from the Thomas Scott Salon and Spa to our meeting and they will also discuss how we can enhance our appearance as well as relax our spirits. Their business is on Baughmans Lane. Both of these establishments enthusiastically welcome all to attend. They will answer questions you have regarding latest techniques in their professions. For your information - Our Community Outreach Committee is still accepting materials for Frederick Hospice House such as personal hygiene and cleaning supplies. Coffee and tea are also greatly appreciated. The Alan P. Linton Jr. Emergency Cold Weather Shelter in Frederick would also still like donations. They are accepting clothing of all sizes, food items in bulk, cleaning supplies, towels, etc. Please drop items off at the Visitor Center Monday-Friday 11am-5pm OR at Chairperson JoAnn Lindgren’s front porch at 6312 Iverson Terrace North. If you have a large donation, you can call JoAnn at 301-696-8609 and pick-up can be arranged. Thank you all in advance! Pool Committee News The Pool Committee gathered for the first time this year on February 7th at the Visitor Center, and new officers were elected as follows: Chairperson Karen Logue We would like to take this opportunity to thank the above, who are not new at tending to all matters of our enviable pools. At this time we also thank the retiring and semi-retiring members of our committee who have devoted countless hours and years of dedication to the committee. They are: Jonette Stupke, Tim Ford, Tom Courtney, and Roz Mansouri. Fifty percent of the Pool Committee will be leaving!! 50%!! It has to be said that there is a dire need for people to come on board and join the Pool Committee. All of the above mentioned people are very busy indeed. They have jobs, families, and contend with the planet just as you do. Many folks move to Spring Ridge because of the lovely pools and activities corresponding to them. In order to have the many parties and activities that have made summers at the pool so enjoyable, people with vision and energy must come on board. Join the Pool Committee. We also serve as an important liaison between PMP and the pool management company. Having an active Pool Committee serves not only the people who swim in the pools, but the entire community. We are the largest pool complex in Frederick County. Come to our next Pool Committee Meeting on Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm in the Visitor Center to show your support. Take pen in hand and write your name down on our piece of paper to join. If you can’t make it, but are interested in joining the Pool Committee, send an email to the Pool Committee at springridgepool@adelphia.net or contact the Visitor Center at 301-620-0782 and let the staff know you would like to be a member of the Pool Committee. You can make the pools even more outstanding than they are now. Please, let’s keep the momentum going!! Mini-Minutes of Meeting

Spring Ridge resident, Debbie Winkles is planning a trip to Greece for June 16-26, 2006 and would like to invite interested Spring Ridge residents to come along. The trip is being coordinated through Yannis Leos (owner of the Candy Kitchen, on Market Street in downtown Frederick). In addition to the candy business, Yannis has a travel agency called Sun Tour. He travels several times during the year between his Athens office and his home here, in the states. This is the third customized trip he has organized through Debbie. This learning adventure is geared toward people of all ages. It was originally designed with Debbie’s high schools students, in mind. However, many adults have joined in to take advantage of this well-planned tour. The cost is $2,995.00 per person, which includes all transportation, hotel accommodations, two meals/day, and entry fees for many of the sites. A Greek-speaking tour guide will accompany th group, who will help relieve language barriers. Tour guides in Greece are highly trained in the knowledge of the history of Greece. He/she will enrich this experience with a great deal of expertise. This learning adventure begins with departure on June 16th from Dulles International Airport. Arrival in Athens will be on June 17th. While in Athens, the group will tour the Acropolis, shop the Agora (ancient market place), visit the Oracle of Delphi, drive along the beach to Sounion, and much more. On the fifth day of the trip, the group will fly to the island of Kos for three days (near Turkey). This is the birthplace of Hippocrates. Accommodations on Kos will be beachfront. This leg of the trip will also include a day to Bodran, Turkey by boat. We will fly back to Athens on June 25th to enjoy a farewell evening and then return to the states on June 26th. If you are interested in taking this trip, please email Debbie Winkles at DWink44@verizon.net to let her know. At this point, the trip has enrolled 10 people, which means it is definitely scheduled. The sooner you let Debbie know of your interest, the easier it will be to guarantee you a space on this trip. There is room for approximately 10 more people.
