Review Newsletter
May 2002
Pruning
Spring is the time for mowing, painting and landscaping. Don't forget
to prune your trees. There are several trees through out the community
that are hanging over the sidewalks. Please make sure you prune your trees
so that the branches are not blocking the sidewalks.
Neighborhood Watch
Living in a beautiful friendly community you may feel a sense of security
leaving your homes, garages, and vehicles unlocked. You may have heard
of the break ins that occurred here at Spring Ridge in April. According
to the Frederick News Post, every vandalized vehicle was unlocked. Please
keep car doors locked, garages closed and locked, and homes secured!
Drought
Despite the rain we have been getting, Frederick County is still in a
drought. Washing cars, watering lawns, washing patios, etc. are prohibited.
During the drought, Frederick County is asking all residential water users
to voluntarily reduce water consumption by 10%. There are several ways
to reduce your water usage. Take quicker showers, do not leave water running
while brushing your teeth or shaving, and use your water saving mode on
the dishwasher.
Point Blank
Please do not deposit grass clippings or other lawn materials onto any
common element, including the wooded areas.
Memorial Volleyball
Tournament
The Jessica Murphy Memorial Volleyball Tournament will be held May 18
at Thomas Johnson High School. There are multiple levels of play and no
experience is required. All proceeds go to the Jessica Murphy scholarship
fund held with The Community Foundation. For more information, visit www.jessicamurphy.com
or call Don/Sue Murphy at 301-607-1132.
Recycling Bin
The Frederick County Office of Recycling offers lids for your recycling
bin. If you have problems keeping your recycling from blowing away, call
Recycling at 301-696-2960. The cost for a lid for your container is a
mere $4.00. It's worth it to keep your Community beautiful!
Architectural Control
Committee
Please submit your architectural change application by Friday, May 3rd
before 4:30pm. The next meeting is May 8th at 7:00 P.M. in the Visitor
Center. Plan to attend the meeting if your application includes any nonstandard

HAPPY MOTHER'S
DAY!
Management would like to wish all of the Spring Ridge Moms a Happy Mother's
Day and honor them with this poem. "Happy Mother's Day" means more than
have a happy day. Within those words lie lots of things we never get to
say. It means I love you first of all, then thanks for all you do. It
means you mean a lot to me, and that I honor you. But most of all, I guess
it means that I am thinking of, Your happiness on this day, with pleasure
and with love.
Pool Passes
Please remember to bring your pool pass with you to the pool. Passes,
along with the updated pool rules will be mailed out to all residents.
Please be sure to share these rules with your children and pool guests.
Everyone must have a pass to enter the pool. Guests can enter with a resident
and a guest pass. All homes will receive one guest pass with ten free
visits. Additional guest passes may be purchased from PMP for $20/ 10
visits or $40/ 20 visits. Residents will not be reimbursed for lost or
stolen guest passes.
Swim Lessons/Swim
Team
Swim lessons will be offered again to all Spring Ridge residents. Please
see the flier in this newsletter for details. Last year, more than 130
children participated in the Red Cross instructor certified lessons. All
interested swimmers are encouraged to join our community swim team, the
Sharks. The swim team is a recreational activity designed to continue
advancing a child's stroke performance and to teach children the value
of team work.
Party Rentals
Once again, the pool is open for residents to host a pool party during
or after hours. The forms needed to host a party are available online
at www.springridgeonline.com or at the Visitor Center. All paper work
must be completed 2 weeks prior to the event. The rental agreement has
all of the details included but questions can be directed to Kelly Blundell
at kelly.ab@pmpbiz.com.
Pool Activities
Calendar
The pool committee has planned several activities designed to capture
the interest of all age groups. On June 8th there will be a "Summer Splash
Party" to kick off the start of summer. Two new and exciting events this
year have been added to the pool calendar, ADULT NIGHT and FAMILY FUN
NIGHT. After many requests to the committee and management for more activities
for adults, the pool committee came up with adult night as a way for hardworking
adults to come down to the pool and relax after a long day. This would
be a great time for a group to come down and host a book club, play cards
or just relax! Adult night will be held every other Monday evening from
6:30 - 8:30pm. Family fun night is the other exciting addition to the
pool calendar. Family fun night is a time for families to enjoy special
activities at the pool. Activities included are float night, movie night,
game night as well as many more. Family fun night will be held every other
Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8:30pm. See the calendar at the pool for
specific details.
Other parties planned
for the pool season are a Family Pool Party for all residents with a tropical
theme and a Teen night including music and games. An Adult Pool Party
sponsored by the Recreation Committee is also being planned. Look for
details in upcoming newsletters concerning all pool functions.
Swim Tests
Just a reminder that swim tests will be given to all children under the
age of 16. If your child passed the test last year, they will need to
see a lifeguard to receive their bracelet. The swim test consists of swimming
the length of the lap pool one time and treading water for one minute.
If you have any questions about the test, please see Andy Potter, your
pool manager. If you have any suggestions regarding the pool or pool activities
please email kelly.ab@pmpbiz.com or drop a note off at the Visitor Center.
We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable pool season!
"Take A Bite Out
Of Crime"
Did you know that the McGruff House Program is established in Spring Ridge?
This program offers a way for neighbors to work together to promote the
well being of our children by providing assistance in emergencies. A McGruff
House is a temporary haven for children who find themselves in emergency
or frightening situations, such as being bullied, followed or hurt while
walking in the neighborhood. McGruff House participants are volunteers
who have agreed to law-enforcement record checks, and only after all screening
procedures are complete, are they approved to participate.
What does a McGruff
House Participant Do?
The volunteers agree to provide the following types of emergency assistance:
- Telephone appropriate
authorities for help.
- Reassure and aid
children who are scared or lost.
- Assist children
who have medical emergencies by obtaining appropriate attention.
- Assist those who
are in immediate fear of becoming victims of personal crime or thefts.
- Report crimes and
suspicious activities to law enforcement officials and provide descriptions
of vehicles and suspects when possible.
What McGruff House
Participants Does Not Do:
- Personally provide
first aid or administer medications, except in extreme emergency situations
and then only if qualified.
- Act as an escort
service. o Assume the role of neighborhood supervisor.
- Enforce laws.
- Provide toilet
facilities.
- Provide a place
to "warm up" or "cool down".
- Provide food or
beverages, or
- Guarantee safety.
We hope you will
discuss this important program with your children. Please explain to them
what they can expect and what identifies a participant. A sign similar
to the symbol below is what each participant will display in their window.
We feel this program
is another step towards better safety for our children. Please take the
time to discuss this program with your children. If interested in participating,
please call Lise O'Connell at 301-698-1252 for an application.
Calling All Sharks!
The time is finally here for registration for the 2002 Spring Ridge Sharks
swim team! I hope you have been maintaining your swimming endurance for
the upcoming season. We look forward to working with both returning swimmers
as well as any new members to the team.
There have been quite
a few changes in the Frederick Summer Swim League (FSSL) that we are members
of, and we will be bringing you up to date on those changes at registration.
Registration will
take place at the Visitor's Center on Sunday, May 19th 5-7:30pm. Please
make every attempt to attend this important registration/meeting. This
is your chance to hear of policy changes, try on/order team suits and
buy T-shirts, meet the coaches and committee members, find out dates of
the planned events to plan your vacation and have your questions/concerns
answered.
As always, we depend
heavily on the team parents to assist us in not only our swim meets but
also working with us on swimmers' social events. There are many ways to
help with these events should you have scheduling or family commitments.
We will work with you because it takes everyone's help for these events
to take place.
Swimmers may register
with a personal check or cash. No registrations will be accepted without
payment. No swimmer may practice without a registration form (insurance
reasons). To join, your child must be able to swim (ages 5-19 as of June
1st 2002). This means that your child can swim 25 meters without stopping,
without floatation devices or hanging onto the wall. Practice schedules,
calendar of events and Shark Rule Handbooks will be distributed at the
May 19th registration. Please bring your insurance policy number with
you for registration. All swimmers must have a parent/guardian signature
to join.
We look forward to
seeing you at registration!
