Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
October 2002

We Have a New Trash Company
And the pick up days will change to Monday and Thursday.

Yes, after all of these years, Spring Ridge will have a new trash hauler. The new company’s name is Ecology Services Refuse Disposal, L.L.C. We welcome them to the community and hope that we can enjoy a good, professional relationship for several years.

The level of service will not be diminished at all, in fact, the new hauler will provide a few more services that will improve the community. Ecology will continue to pick up 3 bags of yard waste each collection day, during the summer months. Ecology will also pick up the trash from the containers at the playground/recreational areas. Ecology will not pick up sod, rocks, bulk trash, appliances, or construction debris.

The starting date for Ecology Services will be November 4th, 2002. Recycling will remain on Friday and will be done by another hauler (BFI). The most important item to remember with the new hauler is that the days of pick up will be Monday and Thursday. Thank you.

Crossing Ridgefield Drive Can Be Scary
Spring Ridge Elementary School does not have a paid, professional crossing guard. Despite the speed humps and neon signs in front of the school, people continue to drive very quickly along Ridgefield Drive, creating a dangerous situation for the children who walk home. Once again, the PTA's Safety Committee is trying to put a volunteer crossing guard program in place and is looking for volunteers from the community. The commitment for the morning shift would be from 8:45-9:10am and in the afternoon from 3:40-4:00pm. Depending on the number of volunteers who offer to help out, it might be once a week or month that we need you. The school is in the process of installing student safety patrols to help out; however, these patrols will not be permitted to do their job if no adult is present in the crosswalk. This is a particularly good volunteer opportunity for our senior community members who would like to get involved without a large time commitment. If you think you might be interested, please contact Amy Daiger at 301-698-8211.

Do You Have A Home Security System?
If you answered “YES”, the next question is. . . is it registered with Frederick County? According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office every alarm user must register their alarm system with Frederick County by completing and submitting the permit registration form and paying the alarm permit registration fee. If your alarm is not registered, you may be subject to a fine. For more information contact the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office False Alarm Unit at 301-631-3601.

Trick or Treat
It’s that time again when ghost and goblins will be roaming the streets of Spring Ridge. Trick or Treating will be Thursday, October 31st from 6 - 8:30p.m. Trick or Treaters please be sure to stay safe by wearing light colors, carry a flashlight and always check your candy before you gobble it down.

Seasonal Decorating
Residents are reminded that seasonal decorations such as Christmas lights, Halloween window decals and the like are permitted. However, the decorations or holiday theme lawn ornaments must be removed within 30 days of such holiday.

The Haunting of Hunters
Hunting season is upon us. With the onset of the colder weather comes the inevitable sound of hunters. Hunters are required to hunt only in designated areas. However, there is NO HUNTING allowed within Spring Ridge. If you see anyone hunting in or around Spring Ridge, immediately call the Sheriff’s Department. If hunters are allowed on an adjacent property next to Spring Ridge, the hunters are required to stay at least 150 yards away from the nearest occupied structure.

There are various hunting schedules but generally they run from September 14, 2002 to January 31, 2003. They range from bow season, muzzle loaders to firearms.

Upcoming Construction
Be on the look out for asphalt repairs to the walk paths. Construction start date will be September 23rd and will last for about 3 weeks. Management asks all walkers/runners/bikers to be careful and cautious of the upcoming repairs.

Thank You For Your Blood
The blood drive was one of our best. The Red Cross had 41 donors receiving 35 units of blood. Management would like to thank those who gave for your life saving donation.

Board of Directors Corner
1) Elections for the Spring Ridge Board will be held at the Annual Meeting on November 7, 2002. There is one vacancy on the board; residents interested in serving on the board should contact PMP, Inc at 301-620-0782.

2) The Boy Scouts will begin painting the storm drains, indicating that this is Chesapeake Bay drainage. Please use caution when driving around the painting project.

3) The Board has approved a change in trash haulers. Beginning on Nov 4th, the new company is Ecology Services. This requires a change in trash pick up days, which will now be Monday and Thursday. Ecology Services will provide the same services at a lower cost than the present company. Recycle items will still be picked up on Friday

4) Sections of the asphalt walking paths will be repaired this Fall. In some cases this will require the removal of asphalt and complete repaving. Residents are asked to observe the areas roped off for construction.

5) Sections of the concrete sidewalks have been repaired by pumping in material under the concrete slabs to level the surface. The Board will track to see how this method of repair stands the test of time.

6) Residents with home security systems are reminded to register their system with the county sheriff’s department. Failure to register your system will result in a fine if the Sheriff’s office responds to an alarm at your home. Obtain the application forms from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office False Alarm Unit.

7) The Board has received a request to use signup sheets for the tennis courts. This has been referred to the recreation committee for review and their recommendations. If you have any suggestions regarding this process please forward them to the rec committee.
