Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
September 2002

Board of Directors Corner

1) Thanks to the pool committee for an excellent pool season as we weathered one of the hottest August’s on record.

2) Traffic safety issues
A) School is in session, observe the speed limits and pedestrian walkways around Spring Ridge Elementary. State law permits first graders to walk unescorted to school. Please be aware of the school children. School children and parents, walk on the sidewalks NOT the bike paths.

B) Fleetwood Way is a congested street, we ask residents NOT to use this as a thoroughfare, reserve it for the residents only. The Board in conjunction with the County Safety Department is seeking a solution to this problem.

C) September 21st will be a busy day in Spring Ridge as there is the semi-annual yard sale, a NASCAR promotion at the Exxon Station AND the second week of instructional soccer camp at the soccer fields. We urge residents to drive with caution and patience.
3) Please look in the newsletter for the current water restrictions in Frederick County.

4) We are in the process of assembling the Spring Ridge Directory for publication in December. Parents, if you would like your children’s names removed from the directory for safety reasons, please drop off the written request at the Visitors Center.

5) The board is seeking the resolution to a number of landscaping issues with the developer, Buchanan Partners.

6) A community wide blood drive will be held on September 23rd at the Visitors Center. If you are able, please consider making a donation.

7) Finally, the Board is reviewing a proposal by Mr. Besher, to annex his property south of Monocacy Creek to provide space for an additional 20 single family homes. Drawings of this proposal will soon be posted in the Visitors Center for your review.

Fire Station Community Room
Interested neighbors who have time to make phone calls and organize a committee to help bring a community room to the proposed Spring Ridge Fire Station should call Lise O'Connell (301) 698-1252. Without help, the possibility of this community room will disappear!

The Pool Committee
President is Donna Keys; members are: Bonnie High, Karen Logue, Roz Mansouri, Kathy Sheehy, and Jonette Stupke.

We are looking for new committee members to help expand the pool functions next year. The next meeting is on September 9th at 7pm at the Visitor's Center. All are welcome!

We are interested in accepting suggestions for uses of the No Splash Pool (formerly called Lap Pool). Bring them to the meeting or submit them to the Visitor's Center at your convenience.

Teen Pool Party
We at Spring Ridge have to be proud of our teen community. Seventy-five teens showed up for the August 17th event, and their behavior was exemplary. No problems!! They were adorable, pizza-eating, soda drinking fish who also danced up a storm. Music was provided by Silver Spring Sound's, D.J. Bob Marshall.

Kudos...
A round of applause goes to Andy, the pool manager and his crew. They all did a super job this summer. The pool is a busy place and their job isn’t easy. But they do a wonderful job of keeping up with everything.

Party Cancellation
Due to the lack of volunteers and community interest, the Adult Pool Party and the Summer’s End Pool Party have been cancelled. The parties were scheduled for August 24th and 31st.

Blood Drive
The American Red Cross will be having a blood drive at the Visitor Center on Sept. 23, 2002 from 1-7pm. Please contact Brenda at 301-620-0782 to schedule a donating time.
