Spring Ridge Review Newsletter
Sept 2003

Board of Directors Corner
Next Board Meeting - September 16, 2003 @ 7pm

1) There is a large accumulation of found items (clothing and towels) at the swimming pool. Stop by to claim your items; items not claimed by the pool closing date will be donated to a local charity.
2) The bike lanes in Spring Ridge were re-stenciled by the county. Anyone not satisfied with the markings should call the county at 301-696-2930. The purpose is to indicate one travel lane for vehicles and one for bikes. SPRING RIDGE PARKWAY IS NOT A TWO-LANE ROAD; please do not drive in the bike lane!
3) Groups and individuals advertising Spring Ridge events are encouraged to post this information on the SR website.
4) Spring Ridge will sponsor a Neighborhood Watch presentation at our Annual Meeting in November. The County Sheriff’s department would like to renew this program in our community.
5) There have been reports of organized solicitation efforts in Spring Ridge. If you are aware of this is occurring, call the County Sheriff’s department.
6) Finally, school will be in session by the time you receive this newsletter. Residents should observe the speed limit and traffic signs posted. The Sheriffs department will be conducting speed enforcement patrols throughout Spring Ridge in the fall.

Conservancy’s Annual Meeting

Spring Ridge Conservancy’s Annual Meeting will be November 6th at the Elementary School. The Annual Meeting is a great thing to attend because all of the Committees and sub association Board members provide information about the past year’s activities. Also, this year an election is planned where 3 Board members will be elected. Please participate by casting your vote. Look for the Call for Nomination forms to be mailed out very soon. Please don’t be guilty of apathy. Voting just takes a few minutes! Thank you.

The Mobile American Red Cross blood drive will be held Monday, September 8, 2003 from 1-5pm in the Visitor Center parking lot. If you are interested in donating, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to schedule your appointment or sign up at the Visitor Center. Thank you.

The Visitor Center will be closed Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. Management and the Board of Directors would like to wish you a Happy and Safe Holiday!

Pool News

Teen Party
One hundred and five members of the 11-17 year old crowd at Spring Ridge swam, danced, ate pizza and frolicked under an orange moon in the still of the night on August 15th. For most of the kids, the night was one that will forever be remembered. Pool Committee members attending this event thought of how great it would be to be fourteen again.

Dave Wharen, D.J. from Soundsations returned to fill the air with tunes from the MTV genre. When asked what would happen if he played something from the Committee’s R&R generation, he replied, “They would throw things at me.” So this was strictly and categorically a time for teens (plus a few pre-teens).
There were zero volunteers from the adults in the community.

End of Summer Party - CANCELLED
Unfortunately, the End of Summer Pool Party had to be cancelled due to the lack of community volunteers. Perhaps, we’ll have better luck next year.

End of Pool Season
September 1st, at 6pm, will mark the closing of Spring Ridge’s 2003 pool season. Homeowners have been very pleased with the way their individual pool parties turned out this season. It should be noted that prior application is required for any pool party.

Pool Committee Membership
The Pool Committee has been functioning with the same six members for many years. We have some terrific plans for the future, but in order to make them a reality, new members are needed. Keep in mind, you don’t even have to know how to swim to be a member of the Pool Committee. All that you need is a desire to see that the largest and most beautiful pool complex in Frederick County remains a place that is a source of pride for those living here, and a place where people of all ages can congregate and have fun in the summer. If you are willing to be on the Committee, contact the Visitor Center and leave your name and phone number or email address. You can also email Roz Mansouri, Pool Committee member, at wonderwheel33@aol.com.

Reminder from the pool staff: Check with the Lost and Found for any of your lost items. Any unclaimed towels will be donated to the Good Will Industries.

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY...

For those homeowners who park their vehicles outside of garages, we recommend locking all doors and putting up all windows whenever your vehicles are left unattended. It is also wise that you do not leave any valuables or items of interest in plain view inside the vehicle.

Trouble Getting Through.....

For those homeowners parking on Fleetwood Court, please take great care in how you park your cars on the street. Careless parking is causing drivers of larger vehicles much stress. It is important that cars are parked carefully and in the right direction. On the same note, all residents of Spring Ridge should be conscientious when parking on roadways so that large vehicles (trash trucks, snow plows, emergency vehicles, delivery trucks, etc.) have free and clear access to the community’s roads at all times.

Celebrate Maryland!!

How much do you know about Maryland? What is the State Sport? How about the State Dog? For the answer to these and many other State of Maryland facts, come to our first Friends And Neighbors Club evening event, Wednesday, September 17th at 7pm at the Visitor Center. Sample Maryland-made beverages and favorite foods that Marylanders love. Before you know it, you’ll be humming the State Song (that would be “Maryland, My Maryland”). Take advantage of this social evening to meet your friends and neighbors that live here in Spring Ridge! For more information about the FAN Club, please contact Diane Knaub, Membership Chairperson, at 301-846-9463.

Calling All Seniors.....

The Spring Ridge Elementary administration and PTA are currently recruiting all seniors who are interested in volunteering at our school. We are looking to add to our school’s great core of parent volunteers by reaching out to the seniors within our community. Whether you are a relation of one of our school’s students or simply a member of our community, there is a volunteer opportunity for you in our school. Volunteers are needed in various areas to support our children’s education, including: reading with and to students, math drills, clerical help, and assistance in our school library. We are also looking for individuals to share and talk about a personal hobby or interest with students. All those interested in touching the future through helping our children are invited to attend our Volunteer Orientation at the Spring Ridge Elementary School on September 18th at 2-3 pm or 7-8 pm. Call Trish Kalinyak at 301-695-3735 or Meg Timmons at 301-695-5861, if you have any questions.

ATTENTION: Men and Women
Golfers of Spring Ridge

If you’re looking for a great opportunity to enjoy a good (or not so good) game of golf, and socialize at the same time, your chance has come. Plans are underway for a Spring Ridge Golf Outing, with a tentative date for the afternoon of October 4th, at the Clusters Spires Golf Course. The cost will be approximately $60 per person, which will afford you a round of 18 holes of “Captain’s Choice” golf, drinks and appetizers back at Spring Ridge, and prizes for the winning teams. Please send an email to springridgegolf@xecu.net to ensure your spot.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

NEW NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM in the Spring Ridge community. A presentation will be made at our Annual Meeting in November. All homeowners are needed to attend for the program to work! Let’s make our community a safer place to live!
